Palworld Breeding Guide

Everything that decides what comes out of an egg, distilled into one page. Pair this with the calculator to plan rare offspring.

The breeding formula

Every Pal has a hidden number called breed power. When two parents are placed in the Breeding Farm, the game uses this formula:

target = floor((parent1.power + parent2.power + 1) / 2)
offspring = Pal with breed power closest to `target`

Ties break by paldex order - the Pal with the lower number wins. Some Pals (legendary variants and special offspring) are excluded from the target pool and can only appear via a fixed special combo.

All special breeding combos

These pairs override the formula. The order of parents doesn’t matter.

Passive skill inheritance

Each parent contributes some of their passive skills to the egg. The game randomly picks from the combined pool, so to stack rare skills like Lucky, Legend, Ferocious, or Workaholic, breed parents that already carry them. Most multi-generation breeding plans look like:

  1. Catch a Pal with one good passive.
  2. Breed it with another that has a different good passive.
  3. Keep crossing offspring until you stack 3-4 desired passives.
  4. Breed that into the species you actually want.

Frequently asked questions

How does breeding work in Palworld?
Place one male and one female Pal at a Breeding Farm with a Cake. After a short timer the female lays an egg. Incubate it and the offspring is decided by the parents' combined breed power, with a small list of special pairs always producing a fixed variant.
What is the breeding formula?
Take each parent's breed power, average them, round up. The Pal whose breed power is closest to that target becomes the offspring. Ties break by paldex order. Same-species pairings always produce the same species.
How do I bake a Cake for breeding?
Cake requires Flour x5, Red Berries x8, Milk x7, Eggs x8, and Honey x2 at a Cooking Pot. Each successful breeding consumes one Cake from the Breeding Farm.
How do passive skills pass down?
Each parent can pass down their passive skills to the egg. Breed parents that already have rare passives like Lucky, Legend, Ferocious, or Workaholic to stack them in the offspring across multiple generations.
Can two Pals of the same species breed each other?
Yes, and it's the safest way to preserve passive skills - same-species breeding always produces that species.
Why didn't my parents make the special combo I expected?
Special combos require the exact named pair on this site. If breed power and types are similar but the names don't match a special combo entry, you'll get the standard breed-power result instead.
Can I breed legendary Pals like Frostallion or Jetragon?
You can use them as parents to produce other Pals, but you can't breed two random Pals into a Frostallion or Jetragon. Same-species breeding (Frostallion + Frostallion) preserves the species. Frostallion + Helzephyr is a known special combo for Frostallion Noct.
Is this Palworld breeding calculator free?
Yes. No accounts, no paywalls. The data lives in your browser and the calculator works offline once loaded.
